First Music Contact is the only independent information and advice organisation for grass roots and emerging artists and the independent music sector in Ireland, FMC is credited with raising the profile of the popular (rock, alternative, electronic and singer songwriters) music sector and the industry at local, national and international level and have recently launched an online music room for showcasing Irish acts called Breaking Tunes (www.firstmusiccontact.com). FMC also co-runs the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival (www.hwch.net). Ireland’s only festival for unsigned acts.
Strategic partners include The Arts Council, The IRMA Trust, international music development organisations, and many record and publishing companies, both national and international.

IMRO is a national organisation that administers the performing right in copyright music in Ireland on behalf of its members - songwriters, composers and music publishers - and on behalf of the members of the international overseas societies that are affiliated to it. IMRO's function is to collect and distribute royalties arising from the public performance of copyright works. IMRO is a not-for-profit organisation.
Music users such as broadcasters, venues and businesses must pay for their use of copyright music by way of a blanket licence fee. IMRO collects these monies and distributes them to the copyright owners involved. The monies earned by copyright owners in this way are known as public performance royalties.
IMRO is also prominently involved in the sponsorship and promotion of music in Ireland. Every year it sponsors a large number of song contests, music festivals, seminars, workshops, research projects and showcase performances. Indeed, IMRO is now synonymous with helping to showcase emerging talent in Ireland.

Culture Ireland is the national agency for promoting Irish arts worldwide. The organisation creates and supports opportunities for Irish artists and companies to present and promote their work at strategic international festivals, venues, showcases and markets.
Culture Ireland operates a quarterly funding scheme [February, May, August and November] to support the international presentation of work by Irish artists and companies. Applications are accepted from both participating artists or from international presenters. Culture Ireland also operates See Here, a scheme designed to enable Irish artists and companies to invite international presenters, curators and promoters to see new Irish work available for touring.
Culture Ireland presents showcases of Irish work at key arts events and markets including the Edinburgh Festivals, Arts Presenters in New York (APAP), the Venice Biennale and the Frankfurt Book Fair.

THE ARTS COUNCIL / AN CHOMHAIRLE EALAÍON /
The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon is an autonomous body established in 1951 to stimulate public interest in and promote the knowledge, appreciation and practice of the arts. We are the Irish State's principal instrument of arts funding and an advisory body to Government on arts matters, operating under the Arts Acts of 1951, 1973, and 2003. As an advocate for the arts, we commission and publish research and information and undertake a range of development projects, often jointly with other public sector or non-governmental agencies.
The Arts Council is a voluntary body of 12 members and a chair, appointed by the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism for a term of five years. The twelth Arts Council was appointed in 2003.
The Arts Council supports all aspects of the arts, in Irish and in English - architecture, dance, drama, film, literature, music, opera and visual arts. We support individual professional artists through direct awards and bursaries and through Aosdána, the affiliation of creative artists. We also support multi-disciplinary arts through activities and facilities such as arts centres, festivals and community arts. We provide annual and multi-annual grants or project funding to hundreds of organisations involved in the arts throughout Ireland.
